President Mills calls for unity at GOC

The President of Ghana John Evans Atta Mills has urged aggrieved candidates of last Saturday’s Ghana Olympic Committee elections to back the newly-elected executives.

Some members of the old executives were not present at the time of elections due to the misunderstanding at congress. They thought the polls had been suspended after the IOC representative angrily stormed out of the auditorium due to the misunderstanding between the two factions on the day of congress.

It is alleged that, the peeved old executives want to petition the International Olympic committee over the manner with which the election was conducted.

President Mills who is a former first vice president of the Olympic Committee in a meeting with the press on Wednesday at the castle, Osu called on the two factions to settle their differences and work together to promote a worthy course for Ghana.

According to him, the Ghana Olympic committee over the years have had problems and it’s appropriate they solve all their difference.

“I don’t think that, as sports men we should let these differences make as lose sight on what should be our national objective”. Said the President He added that, all the wrangling between the executives should be discarded for the association to function effectively for a better Ghana.
