Abudus warn of looming Dagbon ethnic clashes

The Abudu Royal Family in Dagbon has warned of a possible re-emergence of conflict in the Dagbon Traditional Area unless government acts quickly to safeguard the fragile peace residents have enjoyed in recent times.

The Abudus raised the red flags on the road map to peace claiming that their rivals, the Andanis have stockpiled weapons in readiness for the installation of a new overlord.

They pointed out that the move if indeed true contravened the existing agreement for peace in the Dagbon Kingdom. They are suspicious that government is taking sides in the protracted chieftaincy dispute between the rival Abudus and Andanis in Dagbon.

Dr. Ziblim Iddi, the national spokesperson for the Abudu Royals, thus implored government to remain neutral in handling the age long chieftaincy dispute.

He further tasked the national security apparatus to quickly heighten security measures in Yendi and its environs to avert another bloodbath in the area.

Dr. Ziblim stated that the Abudus were ever ready to return to the peace talks at Manhyia with the expectation that their brothers from the Andani family will do same.

However, spokesperson for the Andanis, Dr. Yahuza Gomda, rubbished the Chronicle newspaper publication of Thursday, which indicated that trouble was looming in the state of Dagbon.

Dr. Gomda, however, maintained that there would never be peace in Dagbon unless the Abudus do the right thing by apologising to the Andanis over the murder of the overlord of Dagbon, the late Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II on March 27, 2002.
