High Court Judge donates to alma mater

Moyiri, UWR, Sept.18, GNA - Mr Justice Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh, a Supervising High Court Judge in the Eastern Region, has appealed to people in responsible positions to support the development of their alma mater that laid the foundation for them.

He made the appeal when he donated two sets of football jerseys, a hand ball and 1,000 exercise books valued at GH¢200, to Moyiri Primary School in the Nadowli District of the Upper West Region, where he had his basic education.

He said the donation was in fulfilment of a long time dream to do something for the school that nurtured him to encourage the pupils that they could make it in life no matter where they start their education.

Justice Suurbaareh noted that education holds the key to every door in life hence the need for parents to send their children including the girl-child to school and monitor their progress.

He advised the pupils to apply themselves to their books and live disciplined lifestyles.

The Supervising High Court Judge also appealed to teachers of the school to resolve to work harder to provide quality education to the pupils who would grow to support the development of the community.

Madam Mary Grace Bonye, District Director of Education appealed to parents, especially mothers to refrain from withdrawing their girl-child on market days to exploit their labour.

She spoke against the migration of children in the area to mining communities to earn a living at the expense of their education.

Naa Andrew Maara, Chief of Moyiri, appealed to the district education directorate for the provision of a junior high school (JHS) and a borehole for the school.

He said pupils in the community commute five kilometres daily to either Daffiama or Nadowli to attend JHS.

Miss Vida Nadie, a Primary Six pupil of the school expressed her gratitude to Mr Justice Suurbaareh for providing the academic facility with the items.
