Boys’ Brigade mark Centenary Anniversary with thanksgiving service

Accra, Sept. 3, GNA – Mr Kwamina Ollennu Amponsa-Dadzie, President of Boys’ Brigade-Ghana, on Friday said the organisation would continue to partner government to ensure holistic upbringing and development of the Ghanaian youth.

He said the increasing rate of indiscipline among the youth called for concerted efforts among stakeholders to stem the tide and guarantee a bright future and accelerated development.

“The Boys’ Brigade will not relent in its efforts to inculcate into the youth discipline and the promotion of obedience at all levels as the future of the country lies in their hands,” Mr Amponsa-Dadzie said.

Mr Amponsa-Dadzie was addressing a press conference to outline activities planned to climax the centenary celebration of the Brigade in Ghana. It is on the theme: “100 Years of Advancing Christ’s Kingdom Among Boys.”

The Brigade was first introduced to Ghana in 1911 and currently has 50,000 members made up of the youth, company and partners.

President John Evans Atta Mills is the Life Patron.

The activities include a memorial service for departed boys, officers and patrons, procession and float through some principal streets of Accra and Massive Centenary Parade, Council Meeting, awards dinner, a centenary thanksgiving service and church parade between September 2-4.

Mr Amponsa-Dadzie said representatives from Nigeria, South Africa and Benin would attend the celebrations.

Reverend Nii Blebo Anan, Brigade Secretary, said the organisation had been able to draw street boys to church and offered counselling in times of child abuse.

He said when the youth were properly educated along Christian principles, the issue of homosexuality would not permeate their ranks.

“Instead, the youth would imbibe the sense of nation building and spirit of patriotism as well as enviable service, “Reverend Anan added.
