CSUC introduces BSc degree programme in nursing

Kumasi, Aug 5, GNA - The Christian Service University College (CSUC) in Kumasi would begin a Bachelor of Science degree programme in Nursing, this academic year. This follows approval by the National Accreditation Board for the University to start the four-year programme in affiliation with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). Professor Emmanuel Frempong, President of the University, said the students would be adequately prepared to enable them qualify for certification and registration with the Nurses and Midwives Council of Ghana. They would be empowered with ethical and legal framework to contribute to the improvement of health care delivery. Prof Frempong, speaking at the launch of the programme, said their vision was to produce men and women who would exhibit moral and academic uprightness, have passion to serve and transform society. They would be trained to become dedicated and God fearing nurses with the heart for the sick. Started with four theology students in 1974, the university now has about 2,000 students pursuing courses in theology, business studies, computer science and communications. Dr Samuel B. Adubofour, the Vice President, said apart from entry for senior high school graduates to pursue a four-year programme, opportunity existed for professional nurses to top up to acquire a degree in nursing. He said the University has well equipped practical skills and demonstration laboratory for students to train, adding, a memorandum of understanding has been signed with the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH= ) and some selected hospitals in Kumasi to offer practical training and internship for the students. It has also signed on highly qualified lecturers in nursing to teach a= t the Department, he said and asked parents to take advantage of the flexible nature of the programme in terms of fee payment and lecture periods to enroll their wards.
