Workers celebrate Public Service Day

Accra, June 23, GNA - Public Service Day was celebrated on Thursday with a call on workers to show commitment to serve the interest of the country.

The day set aside by the United Nations General Assembly and African Union (AU) was to honour the value and virtue of Public Service workers to society.

This year's celebration is on the theme: 93Transformative Leadership and Innovation in Public Governance" to highlight the contribution of public services workers in national development.

A statement issued in Accra and copied to the Ghana News Agency said as part of the celebration, Ghana had adopted a sub-theme: 93Creating a Better Life Through Transformational Leadership", with the sponsorship of the Public Service Commission to provide a better working environment for all and sundry.

It said the celebration was to build the facility of government, particularly in developing countries, to anticipate and respond to the many challenges facing the society.

In addition, it was aimed at promoting better and regional cooperation to enable government officials exchange good practices, experiences and training programmes to improve service delivery to society.

The Public Service Commission urged the public to report any negative attitude towards the development and growth of the nation and appealed to the public to assist the public service to contribute their quota for a better nation.

The statement noted that public servants had over the years, demonstrated their commitment to serving the public and private sectors in all spheres of life and pledged to continue to be reliable and loyal partners in development.
