Liberian delegation studies Ghana's transport sector

Accra, June 22, GNA- A delegation from the Liberian Transport Ministry is in Ghana on a four day study tour of the country's transport sector.

The four-man delegation led by Mr. Ebenezer Kolliegbo, Liberian Deputy Minister of Transport (Administration), will understudy some key agencies in Ghana's transport sector to appreciate their operations and to adopt the strategies that would benefit Liberia.

Mr. Lemuel Kleeme, Assistant Director of Public Relations of the Liberian Ministry Of Transport, said various sectors in Liberia had been adversely affected by the 15 years of civil war including the transport sector and that they had chosen Ghana as a model for the reconstruction of that sector especially in the aviation and road sub-sectors.

He stated that Liberia and Ghana had a cordial relationship especially in aviation as Ghana had trained some Liberian aviation personnel as Air Traffic Controllers.

Mr. Kleeme made these statements when the Liberian delegation visited the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL).

He said the resumption of flights by Delta and Air France to Liberia was a major achievement for Liberia's post conflict aviation sector. "The resumption of Delta and Air France's flight services is a sign of the stability of airport security in the aviation sector of Liberia", he said.

Air Commodore Kwame Mamphey, Director-General of the GCAA, briefed them on the GCAA and its operations while a representative of Mrs. Doreen Owusu-Fianko, Managing Director, GACL, took them through the operations of the GACL.

The delegation have so far visited the Ministry of Transport, National Road Safety Commission, GCAA and GACL and would visit the Driver Vehicle Licensing Authority, Metro Mass Transport, Ghana Maritime Authority and other agencies in the transport sector.
