Seminar on investigative journalism begins Today

THE World Bank Institute, in collaboration with the Institute of Financial and Economic Journalists (IFEJ), will hold a 10-week seminar on Investigative Journalism at the Distance Learning Centre at GIMPA.

The seminar, which will be conducted through video-conferencing on a weekly basis for three hours, begins on Tuesday, January 15.

The goal of the course is to strengthen the capacity of the news media so that they can play a critical role in holding governments and businesses accountable.

The course includes elements such as generating and conducting local investigative journalism, interviewing techniques, journalists’ safety/risk evaluation, legal issues, Internet and document research.

The aim of the course is to equip investigative journalists with the means to carry out and deliver well-researched and clearly written stories that expose wrong-doing, computer and systematic malfunctioning in organisations.

The programme will identify constraints to doing watchdog journalism and provide a tool kit to reporters on how to do investigative projects.
