Ghana to develop national portal, brand name

Tamale, June 6, GNA - Government is in the process of developing a national portal information system that would provide all relevant information on every sector of the economy that would be readily available to potential investors on the internet.

In this regard the Ministry of Information in collaboration with the District Assemblies have been charged with assembling all the necessary information not only on the potential investment and tourist sites in their areas, but also the cultural and educational aspects as well as the agricultural and health infrastructure existing in their districts.

Mr Baba Jamal, Deputy Minister of Information announced this at a meeting with District Chief Executives (DCEs) and District Information Officers (DIO) in the Northern Region in Tamale at the weekend. He said there was very little information on the country's potentia= ls and as a result investors could not readily access information on which areas to invest in and had constantly been inundating the Ministry of Information for the necessary information.

He said it was therefore important that every district and region had all the necessary information on the internet for potential investors and tourists to readily access.

Mr Jamal said the Ministry was also in the process of given the natio= n a brand name that would make it appealing to investors and Ghanaians. He said in similar manner the regions were also to adopt brand names to which they could easily be identified to make them attractive and marketable to the outside world.

He announced that in line with the development of the national portal and the Branding Ghana Project, all the district information offices would be provided with computers soon to facilitate their work. The Deputy Minister appealed to the DCEs to support the staff of the ISD to propagate the policies and programmers' of the government to the people and to also assist in accommodating as well as giving logistic support.

He urged the staff of the ISD to form cordial relations with the DCEs to enhance their work and warned that those who fail to cooperate with the DCEs would be sanctioned.

Mr Moses Bukari Mabengba, Northern Regional Minister asked politician= s to establish good working relationships with civil servants and appreciate their work so that they cultivate mutual trust for each other instead of unhealthy suspicions of one another.
