President says technical education is important for government

Koforidua, June 01, GNA - President John Evans Atta Mills on has said technical education was the basis of the National Democratic Congress' "Better Ghana Agenda" and that it was the foundation on which the country stood.

He was speaking on Tuesday at the Koforidua Technical High School (KOTECH) when inaugurating a 350-capacity dormitory as part of his three-day working visit to the Eastern Region.

President Mills called on the students and the school authorities to handle the facility with care and appealed to the students not to relent in their studies since the future of the nation rested on them.

Mrs Betty Mould-Iddrisu, the Minister of Education, said a 70 million-dollar loan facility had been acquired to benefit all technical schools in the country.

Mr Alex Asamoah, the New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive, said the government had done so much for the municipality since it assumed power in 2009.

He said until 2009, there were only 29 educational projects in the municipality which were even uncompleted, adding that, the government had completed those projects and had added 21 new ones.
