United Cadre Front appeals to Mrs Rawlings to reconsider decision

Kumasi, April 22, GNA - The United Cadre Front in Ashanti has appealed to former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings to reconsider her decision to contest the upcoming presidential primary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

This they said was necessary to bring peace to the party and allow President John Evans Atta Mills to concentrate on the job of transforming the economic situation of the people.

This was contained in a statement issued in Kumasi and signed by the Cadres Regional Secretary, Mr Ahmed Iddrisu.

They also pleaded with the party's Founder, former President Jerry Rawlings, to end his open criticisms of the sitting President. The Cadres said the former President should rather help to unite the rank and file of the party in order to retain the NDC in power come 2012.

They did not hide this discomfort with the way some people and groupings within the party were showing open hostility towards perceived supporters of the Rawlingses.

The Cadres asked the government not to discount the concerns raised by former President Rawlings and some members of the public. It should instead look for ways to address them.

They pledged their support to President Mills as he worked hard to deliver on his 93Better Ghana" agenda. KOB
