Outspoken media personality Afia Pokua, popularly known as Vim Lady, has criticised Communications Minister Samuel Nartey George following his heated confrontation with a military officer over an operation in his constituency.

She said the minister could have handled the matter more maturely instead of publicly rebuking the officer and undermining his military rank as a lieutenant.

Vim Lady cautioned Sam George to be mindful of his public utterances, particularly when addressing military officers, warning that such conduct could create tensions between civilians and the military.

“Do you know what it takes to become a lieutenant? The discipline it takes, and, respectfully, the discipline that you lack. If the police could not maintain order, the military has been instructed to carry out an operation to instil discipline.

“He could have called their leader to talk to them about why this operation was carried out without his notice in a diplomatic way, or contacted the CDS about it. And openly, you are abusing the military officer. These are the kinds of attitudes that bring a coup d'état when the military is upset,” she said in a video shared on TikTok.

The journalist further advised the Ningo-Prampram MP to exercise discipline and control his temper when addressing issues in public.

She noted that several people had previously raised concerns about the minister's conduct, but their warnings had gone unheeded. She urged him to learn from the incident.

“You are indisciplined, and you must admit it. People have been saying it, but you don’t listen; this is the time for you to listen. You can even go for training in emotional intelligence; this is not a matter of being a lawyer and knowing when to talk and when not to. This is advice,” she added.

Samuel Nartey George recently lost his cool during an encounter with a military officer identified as Lieutenant Albert Goh over allegations that the officer had been terrorising residents of the Ningo-Prampram Constituency.

According to the minister, the officer allegedly stormed the constituency with heavily armed soldiers and seized several trucks without any lawful order.

He described the conduct of the soldiers, who were allegedly acting under the lieutenant's instructions, as akin to armed robbery.

Speaking on the matter, Sam George warned that any soldier who returned to Ningo-Prampram to brutalise residents would face the consequences. He also described Lieutenant Goh as a disgrace to the Ghana Armed Forces and called on the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) to take disciplinary action against him.
