A 56-year-old farmer, identified as Kofi Sackey, has been found dead in his room at Assin Ketukrom in the Assin North District of the Central Region, in what police suspect to be a suicide incident.
The man was discovered on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, with a suspected gunshot wound to his stomach and a single-barrelled gun lying on his body, according to a citinewsroom.com report.
According to the report, the incident was reported to the Assin Praso District Police Command around 12 noon by the deceased’s younger brother, Kofi Ansah.
Ansah told police that he returned from the farm at approximately 11:15 a.m. and found his elder brother lying in a pool of blood inside his room.
A police team led by the District Commander, Superintendent Eric Yao Avudzivi, subsequently visited the scene and found the deceased lying on his back in the middle of the room, with the firearm resting on his stomach.
Police observed a deep wound suspected to have been caused by a gunshot, slightly above his navel.
The deceased’s nephew, Acquah Emmanuel, also told investigators that he was watching television with other family members when Sackey suddenly walked out of the room at about 11:00 a.m.

A few minutes later, they reportedly heard a sound believed to be a gunshot. The family members went outside to establish what had happened but did not find anyone around.
The discovery of the deceased was made shortly afterwards when his younger brother returned from the farm.
Meanwhile, the Assembly Member for the area, Kingsford Deku, has suggested that a disagreement between the deceased and his brother over ownership of a cocoa farm may have contributed to the incident.
Speaking to Citi News, Deku disclosed that the deceased allegedly locked himself inside his brother’s room before the suspected shooting.
Police have since photographed the scene and conveyed the body to the New Edubiase Government Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
