Private legal practitioner Clara Kowlaga Kasser-Tee has paid tribute to her late former schoolmate, Irene Atuguba, recalling how she and her friends nominated her for the position of school prefect at Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School.
In a Facebook post on November 2, 2026, Kasser-Tee recounted how Irene approached her when she was in Senior High School 2 and informed her that the group had already completed the paperwork to nominate her for the position.

She said she was unsure about taking up the role because she already held leadership positions in her church and participated in other activities. However, Irene and her friends went ahead with the nomination.
“You were in SSS1, and I was in SSS2. It was time to select prefects as the SSS3s would be leaving. You told me that you and your friends had decided to nominate me for School Prefect... You had already done all the paperwork and was merely informing me rather than asking my permission for the role,” she recalled.
Kasser-Tee said she eventually won the election, with the school’s then headmistress, Margret Dery, later telling her that she had secured a resounding victory.
She also recalled another encounter after completing her Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE), when she returned to the school to collect her results.
She said Irene and other students cheered her as she walked towards the office, leaving her worried that they might have already seen her results.
Kasser-Tee said she later learnt from a teacher, Francisca Ateere, that she had performed well and that her results had been displayed on the school’s notice board to encourage other students.
Beyond their school days, she described Irene as a hardworking woman who excelled in her career and was always happy to celebrate the success of others.
“There are few people who are genuinely happy to see other people win, and you were one of those small categories. You cheered the loudest for your friends and acquaintances when they won,” she wrote.
“… Irene, that bullet to your head did not just kill the brain, beauty and story behind a generational story. It simultaneously ended the dreams of many,” she stated.
She said she had hoped to share more stories about their friendship but lost that opportunity following Irene’s death on the morning of October 30, 2026.
Kasser-Tee ended her tribute with a call for justice, saying the legal system must help restore public hope.
“I so much want to say hate cannot win. But this time, from where I sit, it looks like hate has won. That is why the Justice system in this country must speak loudly. And restore hope to all of us,” she added.
