Argentine footballer Nicolas Abot is hoping to make football history by scoring on all five continents, with Africa the only remaining destination in his ambitious quest.

The 41-year-old, popularly known as ‘The Football Backpacker’, has played for 43 clubs across 14 countries in a career spanning almost two decades.

Having scored goals in South America, Europe, Asia and North America, he is now seeking an opportunity in Africa to complete his challenge.

Abot is targeting Cape Verde and has appealed to former Cape Verde international goalkeeper Vozinha to help him secure a move to one of his former clubs.

“Vozinha, I need you to send a little message to your former club in Cape Verde so I can fulfil my dream,” he said in an exclusive interview with Flashscore.

The Argentine hopes to have his achievement recognised by Guinness World Records, believing that scoring on every continent would be a unique feat in football.

He pointed to German goalkeeper Lutz Pfannenstiel, who famously played on all seven continents, but believes his own ambition of finding the net across five continents would represent a different achievement.

Abot’s journey began in 2007 when he left Argentine club Olimpo for Costa Rica.

Since then, he has navigated different football cultures, languages and playing conditions, often finding opportunities without the assistance of an agent.

His career has not been without challenges, including contractual disputes and difficult playing conditions. He particularly recalled enduring temperatures of minus 20 degrees during his time in Latvia.

Despite the setbacks, Abot remains determined to keep playing and pursuing his dream.

For him, football has always been more than a profession.

“Football is a way of life for me. It opened many doors for me, but above all, it gave me the love to fight for what I want,” he added.

Now, a potential opportunity in Cape Verde could bring him one goal closer to a place in the record books.
