Ghana’s Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, Kojo Choi, has held discussions with the Chairman of Daewoo Engineering & Construction (Daewoo E&C), Jung Won-ju, on opportunities for the South Korean company to return to Ghana and participate in the country’s infrastructure and industrial development.
In a Facebook post on November 2, 2026, Ambassador Choi said the meeting with Jung, whom he described as a personal friend of nearly 20 years, focused on exploring potential areas of cooperation between Daewoo and Ghana.
He described the meeting as particularly meaningful, given their longstanding relationship and the opportunity to build partnerships that could contribute to Ghana’s development.
“Daewoo has a very special place in the history of Ghana-Korea relations,” Ambassador Kojo Choi stated.
He explained that before Ghana established its embassy in Seoul in 1999, Daewoo had assisted with the country’s diplomatic and consular affairs in South Korea.
According to him, the company’s relationship with Ghana therefore extends beyond business.
Ambassador Choi also highlighted Daewoo E&C’s experience in infrastructure development across Africa, including road construction projects in Ghana and major ongoing projects in Nigeria.
He said the discussions with Jung, who also leads the Herald Media Group, centred on opportunities for the company to contribute to Ghana’s infrastructure and industrial development.
Ambassador Choi further disclosed that he had hoped to invite the Daewoo chairman to Ghana’s Investment Summit scheduled for November 2026, but Jung’s busy schedule would not permit him to attend.
However, he said Jung had promised to visit Ghana next year to explore potential investment opportunities firsthand.
“For me, this is what economic diplomacy is all about; transforming long-standing friendships and historical relationships into meaningful investments and partnerships,” he said.
