NPP Director of Communications Dennis Miracles Aboagye has questioned the Foreign Affairs Minister’s claim that 964 Ghanaians were evacuated from South Africa, saying documents provided by the ministry account for only a portion of the people listed.
Aboagye said the minister had submitted manifests and boarding passes to support his account of the evacuation, but the NPP’s examination of those records allegedly showed that 761 people could not be confirmed as having travelled to Ghana.
He argued that receipts for purchased tickets alone could not establish that passengers actually boarded the flights.
“I can buy a ticket to travel to Belgium tomorrow and just an hour to the trip, I refuse to go or something comes up. I will still have the receipt for the ticket,” he said.
“The true evidence of my travel will be the manifest and or the boarding passes.”
According to Aboagye, the minister’s own manifests and boarding passes still left 761 people unaccounted for, and he insisted that the government must provide further documentation to establish that all 964 people arrived in Ghana.
“That is the first thing the country is waiting on the minister to provide. He hasn’t provided it yet,” he said.
Aboagye also raised questions about the payments made to evacuees, saying the documents showed that some received Ghc500, others Ghc5,000, while some were recorded as receiving both amounts.
He further alleged that certain names, passport numbers and payment records appeared more than once, with different signatures attached to the same details.
He said these discrepancies required clarification and should not simply be dismissed as clerical errors.
