The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has confirmed the arrest of a Syrian national at Beirut airport in Lebanon with about 40 kilograms of suspected cocaine after he arrived from Accra, and says it is working to arrest his accomplices in Ghana.
In a statement issued on Sunday, November 1, 2026, and signed by its Acting Director for Public Affairs and International Relations, PNCO Francis Opoku Amoah, NACOC said the suspect was arrested on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Rafic Hariri International Airport.
According to the statement, the drugs were concealed in two pieces of luggage.
NACOC said the arrest was the result of a coordinated controlled delivery exercise, carried out through close operational cooperation between Ghanaian and Lebanese drug law enforcement authorities.
"As part of the ongoing operation, NACOC is working to arrest his accomplices in Ghana," the statement said.
The commission explained that the joint operation aimed to identify and apprehend targets at both ends of the supply chain, while gathering intelligence to dismantle the wider transnational criminal syndicate behind the shipment.
It added that the operation underscores the commitment of Ghana and Lebanon to disrupting international drug trafficking networks through cross-border intelligence-sharing.
The confirmation follows earlier reports of the arrest on Sunday. According to The National, Lebanese authorities said the 40 one-kilogram packages were found in two bags 222belonging to the passenger, who arrived from Accra at about 8pm on Saturday.
The suspect was identified only by the initials BH. Customs officers and Lebanon's General Security followed him from the plane, watched him collect the bags and then searched his luggage. Apple AirTag tracking devices were reportedly hidden among the packages.
