Founder of Rabito Clinic, Naa Prof Edmund Delle, has recounted the unusual story of how the clinic received rabbits as its first patients after a visitor misunderstood the meaning of its name.
Speaking in an interview with Kafui Dey, Prof Delle said a man arrived at the newly established clinic carrying a box containing about 10 rabbits, believing the facility treated animals because of the name “Rabito.”
“When I wrote Rabito, we know Africans, we do not read. The first patient came with a box of rabbits, and I said, ‘Eiii!,’” he recalled.
According to Prof Delle, the man assumed that the clinic was a veterinary facility because of its name.
He explained to the visitor that Rabito was not named after rabbits but after his professor in Italy.
“So I explained to him that the name is Rabito and I named the clinic after my professor from Italy. So he took them back, and I directed him to a veterinary doctor,” he said.
Despite the unusual start, the clinic soon began receiving human patients.
Prof Delle said the second patient was a pregnant woman, while his first dermatological patient, the area he specialises in, was someone seeking treatment for pimples.
“The second patient was a pregnant woman. My first dermatological patient, the field I specialise in, was someone with pimples,” he said.
