A moment of chaos erupted when some Ghanaians interrupted Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa’s speech at a community engagement in Toronto, Canada.

The post shared by Kwaku Opare on Facebook on October 28, 2026, captured the protesters holding placards bearing the words “Yɛgye Yɛn Sika!” which translates to “We want our money back” as they approached the minister who was delivering a speech.

The incident appeared to catch the minister by surprise as he looked on while the demonstrators chanted “Yɛgye Yɛn Sika!”.

The video also showed some men attempting to prevent the protesters from moving closer to the minister, who was standing on a podium.

One of the protesters could be heard shouting, “Don’t hold me. We want our money back.”

Ablakwa, who appeared surprised by the disruption, attempted to continue his speech but had to momentarily pause as the commotion had attracted the attention of the audience, with many turning to watch the demonstrators.

The protest comes amid continuing public scrutiny over the government’s GH¢49.72 million South Africa evacuation exercise, which brought 1,964 Ghanaians home.
