Getting pregnant at 50 is rare because a woman’s fertility declines with age. Yet, for Nigerian woman Olusola Olonade, who married at 48, the experience became a reality when she welcomed quadruplets just weeks before her 50th birthday.

Olonade gave birth to two boys and two girls on March 6, 2026, three weeks before turning 50 on March 31, 2026.

Her story has drawn attention to the possibility of motherhood later in life, particularly at an age when natural conception becomes increasingly uncommon.

According to a report by Vanguard News, Olonade shared her experience during a testimony at the Redeemed Christian Church of God’s Solid Rock Parish in Ojodu, Lagos.

She said she had married on December 12, 2023, at the age of 48, and had hoped to have children.

The pregnancy came with its surprises. According to the Vanguard report, scans initially showed twins before later examinations revealed three babies and eventually confirmed four.

Olonade said she had not expected to have four babies at once.

Reflecting on her journey, she said she could not leave God out of her experience, pointing to others who had tried unsuccessfully to have children.

“I know people who have tried to have children ten times but it did not work. And they never even reach my age. So, I cannot leave God out of this,” she said in a recent interview with BBC Africa.

She also spoke about her hopes of living long enough to see her children grow up and become parents themselves.

“There are people who have their children at 48, and they live to be 96, and they end up being great-grandmothers. By the grace of God, [I will] live to be a great-grandmom,” she added.
