Residents of Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, have called on the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to introduce a timetable detailing power rationing schedules over frequent and unpredictable power outages.
The residents, particularly business owners, say the erratic power supply is disrupting their livelihoods and making daily life increasingly difficult, as electricity is cut off without prior notice.
According to a report by dailyguidenetwork.com on October 27, 2026, some residents believe an official timetable would help them plan their activities and minimise the impact of the outages on their businesses and households.
“At least if they introduce the dumsor timetable, we can use it to plan our lives. That’s far better than frequent power cuts without prior notice to the people,” a resident, Papa Kumi, said.
The residents suspect that ECG is experiencing significant challenges with power supply and have urged the company to communicate openly about the situation if it is unable to provide a stable electricity supply.
Some residents who spoke on television and radio stations in Kumasi, including Obaapa TV, said a timetable for the outages, popularly known as dumsor, would be a more practical option than the current unpredictable interruptions.

“We cannot plan our lives because power supply can come and go for about 15 times in a day. This is an unpleasant experience, and it’s making living in Kumasi nowadays very difficult,” another resident, Maame Konadu, said on radio.
She added that the frequent outages were affecting not only businesses but also the education of children, who struggle to study at home in the evenings when electricity is unavailable.
Other residents have also raised safety concerns, warning that the repeated interruption and restoration of electricity could contribute to fire outbreaks in homes.
They have called on ECG to address the situation and ensure a more reliable power supply.
Some residents further alleged that criminals were taking advantage of the outages, particularly at night, to attack homes and rob unsuspecting occupants.
The residents are therefore urging ECG to take urgent action to address the disruptions and provide timely information about any challenges affecting electricity supply in the city.
