Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Communications Director, Paul Yandoh, has praised business mogul Ibrahim Mahama for development projects in Damang, saying residents are beginning to benefit from mining activities in their community.

According to him, ongoing road construction in the area demonstrates how the benefits of Ghana’s natural resources can reach people living in mining communities.

Speaking about his recent trip to Akwatia in the Eastern Region to attend a funeral, Yandoh said he travelled through several communities before arriving in Damang, where he witnessed road construction works reportedly being undertaken by Ibrahim Mahama.

“I will be truthful. That is what I’ve used my eyes to see. Ibrahim Mahama is working. I passed by the place, so I have witnessed what I am talking about,” he stated.

He explained that the development was encouraging because residents of mining communities should benefit directly from the resources extracted from their land.

“From what I have witnessed, since they’ve given him the gold mine, the people are benefiting from it. And that is the essence of change,” he said.

Yandoh stressed that development should bring tangible improvements to people’s lives rather than remain at the level of promises.

“Change should impact positively in all of our lives,” he added.

He also referenced former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s position that improvements in economic indicators, including a stronger cedi and lower inflation, should translate into better living conditions for ordinary Ghanaians.

Yandoh encouraged those undertaking the projects to continue their efforts to help ease the hardships faced by residents.

He further appealed to other individuals and companies benefiting from mining activities to invest in the development of their host communities.

According to him, communities should not remain poor while valuable natural resources are extracted from their lands. He stressed that mining activities must deliver lasting benefits to local residents.
