Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Henry Asante Twum has cautioned that restoring the Black Stars to their competitive best will require considerable time and effort following the team's recent struggles.

Speaking to Joy Sports, Asante Twum acknowledged the challenges confronting the national team but stressed that an immediate turnaround should not be expected.

“It wouldn’t take a day, wouldn’t take a week, it’ll take a lot more effort and a lot of time to get the team back on track,” he said.

His comments come amid growing concerns about the Black Stars' declining fortunes after a series of disappointing performances, including defeats to Côte d'Ivoire and The Gambia in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.

Ghana's struggles have intensified scrutiny of the team's leadership, with supporters demanding improvements in performances and results as the country seeks to rebuild its national side.

Asante Twum maintained that the leadership was aware of the problems affecting the team and was working towards finding solutions to restore its competitiveness.

“Where we are at this moment, leadership is aware of the challenges that confront us and efforts are being made to get the team back on track,” he added.

However, his remarks suggest that the process of rebuilding the four-time African champions could be a lengthy one, requiring sustained work rather than a quick fix.

The GFA communications director also acknowledged that poor results naturally attract criticism, arguing that leadership must accept the public reaction when the team fails to deliver.

“When you win, you're hailed, but you don't expect the people to hail you when the results are poor. That's what leadership must know and accept,” he said.
