Former President Nana Akufo-Addo has urged chiefs and elders in the Dagbon Traditional Area to protect the prevailing peace and ensure that their actions do not undermine efforts to restore lasting stability to the area.

Speaking during a meeting with the new Regent of Dagbon at his office in Labone, Akufo-Addo said he was pleased to have contributed significantly to the restoration of peace and remained deeply interested in maintaining unity in the traditional area.

“I dare say that there are one or two of us who have an even greater interest, and I’d like to consider myself one of them,” he said.

He expressed gratitude to the regent for visiting with a delegation of chiefs and elders from Dagbon, describing their commitment to sustaining peace as important to the traditional area’s future.

Akufo-Addo also welcomed the regent’s commitment to continuing the peace efforts of his father while overseeing the traditional area until a new Yaa Naa is restored in accordance with custom and law.

“I’m happy about the fact that you have committed yourself to ensuring that the peace which your father worked for will continue to guide you in all the decisions you will make as regent until a new Yana is restored in accordance with the custom and the laws,” he said.

He urged the regent to allow the commitment to peace to guide his decisions throughout his tenure, stressing the importance of preserving the calm that has been achieved in Dagbon.
