The University of Ghana (UG) has announced that undergraduate students who failed to obtain a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 1.00 at the end of the 2025/2026 academic year must withdraw from their respective programmes.
The directive, issued by the university's Academic Affairs Directorate in a notice shared on Facebook on Thursday, October 22, 2026, forms part of measures to enforce the institution's academic progression requirements.
According to the Directorate, the decision is backed by Section 9.26 of the University Regulations for Junior Members (2017), which stipulates the minimum academic performance required for students to advance to the next level of their studies.
Under the regulation, undergraduate students are expected to maintain a CGPA of at least 1.00 while meeting the additional academic requirements set by their respective schools or departments.
The university explained that students who fall below the required CGPA after the release of all examination results for their registered courses will not be permitted to continue their programmes.
It further clarified that its academic regulations do not provide for probation, meaning affected students will not be granted an additional opportunity to improve their grades before withdrawal.
As part of the process, students have been instructed to verify their academic standing through the university's Management Information System (MIS) Web platform.
Those who fail to meet the minimum CGPA requirement are expected to access the Student and Staff Portal (STS) using their student identification numbers and PINs to initiate the withdrawal procedure.
"Affected students are to check their CGPAs on the MIS Web, log in to the STS Portal (sts.ug.edu.gh/services) with their Student ID and PIN and select 'Withdrawal Request' to initiate the process," the statement directed.

However, the Academic Affairs Directorate indicated that students enrolled in certain programmes would not be required to initiate the process themselves, as their respective schools or departments would handle the withdrawal procedures on their behalf.
The university has also encouraged students who require further information about their academic standing or the withdrawal process to contact their respective College Academic Offices for assistance.
Meanwhile, the Careers and Counselling Directorate has been made available to offer counselling, guidance and other necessary support to students affected by the decision.
