An Accra High Court has dismissed an application by former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority, (NPA), Mustapha Hamid, seeking permission to travel abroad while standing trial over alleged extortion in the petroleum sector.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) announced the development in an update on social media on Thursday, October 22, 2026.
According to the OSP, the court said that an accused person on bail whose movement has been restricted must demonstrate compelling reasons for the restriction to be temporarily lifted.
The court found that the grounds presented by Hamid did not justify granting the request and dismissed the application. The OSP had opposed the application.
Hamid and seven others are standing trial over allegations of extorting money from players in the petroleum sector.
The former NPA boss had earlier joined the other accused persons in seeking to have the charge sheet struck out.

The court, however, dismissed that application, allowing the pre-trial proceedings to continue.
