Ghanaian actor and broadcaster, Kwame Dzokoto, has died after collapsing during a panel discussion on Owass Radio in Tarkwa.

According to reports, he was rushed to a hospital in Tarkwa, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

This GhanaWeb article takes a look at his political journey.

Dzokoto ventured into partisan politics in 2016 when he contested the Tarkwa-Nsuaem parliamentary seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Dzokoto, widely known for his role in the popular television series Efiewura, polled 24,044 votes in the December 2016 parliamentary election but lost to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) George Mireku Duker.

Duker won the constituency with 42,594 votes, maintaining the NPP’s hold on the seat, which it had held since 2000.

Despite receiving more votes than his party’s presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, who obtained 23,379 votes in the constituency, Dzokoto could not secure the parliamentary seat.

Dzokoto’s entry into politics marked a shift from his established career in entertainment and broadcasting.

However, his 2016 parliamentary bid ended in defeat, leaving Duker as the constituency’s representative.

He remained a familiar face in Ghanaian entertainment through his acting and broadcasting work.
