For former Ghana international Anthony Baffoe, success has never been defined solely by what he achieved on the football pitch or the positions he has occupied in football administration.

Behind the former Black Stars defender’s journey has been his wife, veteran Ghanaian actress Kalsoume Sinare, whom he describes as his pillar of strength, closest friend and backbone.

Speaking to sports journalist Michael Oti Adjei, Baffoe highlighted the importance of having a strong partner who offers support but is also willing to challenge him when necessary.

“It’s important to have a good home. To have a good wife, a strong wife beside you. Somebody you can communicate with on permanent basis, who also tells you, hey, you’re wrong there,” he said.

Baffoe, who married Sinare in 1994 after meeting her in 1992, has repeatedly acknowledged the importance of his family in his life.

In a 2018 interview with The Nation, he described his wife as “my pillar, my backbone, my best friend”, highlighting her character and generosity.

The former defender enjoyed a distinguished playing career in Germany, France, Asia and South America before transitioning into football administration.

He went on to hold senior positions in African football, including serving as Deputy General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) from 2017 to 2021.

He also founded the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana, championing the welfare of professional players.

Although Baffoe did not attribute specific career achievements to his wife’s direct influence, his comments reveal the personal foundation he values behind his professional life.

“I like women with character. My wife is a woman with character. If not, I wouldn’t be married more than thirty years,” he said.

The couple celebrated 30 years of marriage in December 2024, marking a milestone in a relationship that has spanned Baffoe’s football career and his subsequent work in football administration. They have three children together.

Sinare is one of Ghana’s familiar faces in the film industry, having built a career as an actress and former model.

She represented Ghana at the 1990 Miss Model of the World pageant before becoming a prominent figure in Ghanaian cinema. In 2025, she was appointed Ghana’s ambassador to Spain.
