National Petroleum Authority (NPA) Chief Executive Officer, Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, has accused the previous NPP government of damaging Ghana’s credibility with investors through claims about the country’s crude oil production prospects.

He cited the case of a foreign investor, Michael Blacken, who he said had accused the Ghanaian government of taking his money after being given assurances about Ghana’s oil production capacity.

Tameklo said the government had previously promoted expectations of producing 500,000 barrels of crude oil daily to attract investors.

He argued that the claims had contributed to the country’s loss of credibility when the expected outcomes failed to materialise.

“That is how you discredited this country to investors,” he said on New Day on TV3.

Tameklo also said more than GHc40 billion in debt had since been paid, arguing that the current economic situation should be assessed against the financial challenges inherited by the government.

His comments formed part of a broader defence of the government’s economic management and a criticism of the previous administration’s handling of the economy.
