Former Ghana international Anthony Baffoe has praised Sulley Ali Muntari for standing up for his fellow players, describing the former Black Stars midfielder as a misunderstood rebel who was willing to speak his mind.

Speaking to sports journalist Michael Oti Adjei, Baffoe said Muntari's outspoken nature often overshadowed his willingness to fight for other footballers' interests.

“I'm a big fan of Sulley Ali Muntari. What a lot of people didn't see about Sulley Muntari is that he fought a lot for the others. He's a rebel, but sometimes a misunderstood rebel. He is a rebel for good cause,” he said.

Muntari, who represented Ghana at the 2006, 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups, was known for his uncompromising personality both on and off the pitch.

His Black Stars career included several disciplinary controversies, most notably at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, where the Ghana Football Association suspended him indefinitely after an altercation with a member of the team's management.

However, Baffoe believes the midfielder's willingness to speak openly was an important part of his character, particularly in an environment where other players sometimes struggled to follow through on their concerns.

“He says it as it is. A lot of players, especially back in the day, they say, ‘We have to say this. We have to say this.’ When it comes to the D-Day, they bow out,” he added.
