Minority Leader and Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has reportedly withdrawn the suit he filed against the Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Eric Adjei.
This comes after a similar suit the Minority Leader filed against the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, was thrown out by a High Court in Accra, which ruled that the suit was defective.
Afenyo-Markin announced during parliamentary proceedings on August 24, 2026, that he had sued Sammy Gyamfi and three others, including Eric Adjei.
He disclosed that he had filed two separate suits against the two men, whom he accused of making defamatory comments against him over allegations that he was an “extortionist”.
“I have accordingly caused writs to be filed in Suit Number GT/1029/2026, titled Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin versus Samuel Adu Gyamfi and Multimedia Group Limited at the Accra High Court, and Suit Number GR/ACH/CC/C5/02/2026, titled Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin versus Eric Adjei and Peace FM at the Achimota Circuit Court,” he announced.
According to Eric Adjei’s lawyers, who were addressing the media after court proceedings on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, the suit was withdrawn following the court’s advice.
“There was an initial court before the High Court in Accra and last week we moved an application there for that suit to be set aside, and the court actually agreed with us. Now, during that hearing, the judge in that matter advised parties to try and speak and resolve these matters amicably. So, consistent with that, parties have been speaking on the matter, and that conversation has culminated in the withdrawal of the suit before the Circuit Court today.
“So, we are happy, and we are very happy that the parties, the conversations are making progress, and that we can all see today that the suit has been withdrawn. And what it means is that the parties are willing to settle this matter amicably, and that is what we are also for,” the lawyer said.
