Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has said Ghana must translate its economic recovery into more jobs, higher incomes and increased production to improve the living conditions of citizens.
He said restoring economic stability was only the first step, adding that the next phase must focus on building a productive economy that creates real opportunities for Ghanaians.

In a post on his X page on Sunday, October 18, 2026, Dr Forson recalled making the remarks during an address to students and faculty at the University of Ghana, where he outlined his vision for the country’s New Economy.
“Stabilisation, as I’ve always said, was never the destination, it was the price of entry,” he said, adding that Ghana had reached a point where economic stability must translate into tangible benefits for citizens.
According to the Finance Minister, the country has made progress in reducing inflation, restoring confidence and managing debt pressures.
He, however, stressed that these gains must translate into stronger economic activity and improved household incomes.
“Now we have entered. But stability must now become production, exports, investment, decent jobs, and higher incomes,” he stated.
Dr Forson said building the New Economy would require Ghana to produce more of the goods it consumes and add value to its natural resources and agricultural products.
He said this approach would help expand local industries, boost production and create employment opportunities.
He also called for public investment to create opportunities for private businesses to grow, explaining that government spending should help create the conditions for enterprises to invest, expand and employ more people.
“The New Economy will turn the sacrifices of recovery into the dignity of decent work, higher incomes and prosperity that reaches every Ghanaian,” he said.
Dr Forson stressed that the ultimate goal of Ghana’s economic recovery must be to improve the living standards of citizens.
