World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) legend John Cena has disclosed that his sperm has never fertilised an egg, explaining why he does not have biological children.

According to the 49-year-old, despite several attempts to have children, his sperm has never successfully fertilised an egg.

During an appearance on the What Now? podcast hosted by American comedian Trevor Noah, Cena was asked why he does not have biological children.

“My sperm has never fertilised an egg. That’s how I don’t have kids,” he replied.

Cena explained that he and his wife, Shay Shariatzadeh, had agreed before getting married to remain child-free, as she was focused on settling into life in the United States.

The actor and professional wrestler also said he was not troubled by societal pressure to have children, adding that he had accepted his life choices and was comfortable with them.

“Just because someone thinks I would be good at something is not a reason enough to do it, and it is not a comment where, like, you know, it was not my thing. The time I had to live life is how I lived life.

“As I am here, my wife is curious and independent, and we love each other and respect our space. She is doing something in New York,” he said.

Cena further acknowledged that his decision to remain child-free sometimes made him feel different from the majority of people who choose to have children.

“I am on the wrong side of the math; everybody has kids. Why don’t you have? Well, that’s not necessarily true, but because the majority have it looks like it. They aspire to have a family, and because they don’t want to, I'm an oddball,” he added.
