For many people, finding a snake in the house is enough to send them running for safety. But in Liati Soba in the Volta Region, snakes are part of everyday life for a family that has turned an unusual living arrangement into a source of fascination for tourists.
The family is led by 50-year-old Zimaziwo, who lives with his wife and their three children in the village near Mount Afadja.
Known to many as the “snake family”, they have welcomed curious visitors eager to see the feared reptiles up close.
Speaking in an interview with JoyNews, Zimaziwo said the village offers visitors a rare opportunity to encounter different species of snakes while learning about them.
However, he stressed the need for caution when approaching the reptiles.
“If it bites someone, tie the area with a rope to stop the blood circulation. Don’t drink water and don’t bathe,” Zimaziwo cautioned.

Beyond the unusual experience, Zimaziwo believes the village has the potential to become a major tourist attraction.
He hopes the relevant authorities will give the community the attention and support needed to develop it into a world-class tourist destination, attracting more visitors from Ghana and beyond.
