Ghana defender Marvin Senaya has taken another step towards returning to action after being spotted running on grass as he continues his rehabilitation from a hamstring injury sustained at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 25-year-old suffered the injury during Ghana’s Round of 32 encounter against Colombia on July 3, 2026, forcing him off in the 13th minute of the match as the Black Stars suffered a 1-0 defeat to end their tournament.
Senaya had featured in all four of Ghana’s matches at the competition before the setback brought his World Cup campaign to an abrupt end.
Medical examinations subsequently revealed a significant hamstring injury, with the defender undergoing successful surgery in Paris before returning to his club, AJ Auxerre, to continue his rehabilitation.

The Ghana Football Association initially indicated that he would be sidelined for at least eight weeks.
In August 2026, reports indicated that Senaya was making progress in his recovery, having resumed gym work focused on his injured right leg. He was also expected to return to action in September.
His latest appearance running on grass represents another encouraging development in his rehabilitation, although it remains unclear when he will be ready to resume competitive football.
Senaya’s return to full fitness would be a boost for both Auxerre and Ghana as the defender works towards putting the injury behind him and returning to the pitch.
