Deputy Ranking Member of Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh, has questioned the independence of the committee’s Majority caucus, accusing its members of being too submissive to the Foreign Affairs Minister.
He argued that the perceived lack of independence has emboldened the minister to take the committee for granted, undermining its ability to hold him accountable.
Speaking on TV3’s Daily Brief on October 13, 2026, Asafo-Adjei Ayeh who is also the MP for Bosome Freho, alleged that the Majority members appeared more interested in protecting the minister than exercising their oversight responsibilities.
“So, the Parliamentary Committee is so not independent. It gives me the impression that the majority focus of the Foreign Affairs Committee is at the waist or the back and core of the Minister. And that is why he’s taking the Committee for granted,” he stated.
He repeated his claim that the minister was taking the committee for granted, arguing that the Majority caucus needed to demonstrate greater independence in carrying out its parliamentary duties.

Asafo-Adjei Ayeh also questioned the basis of a response issued by the Majority caucus, suggesting that its position appeared to reflect the minister’s interests rather than an independent assessment of the issues under discussion.
However, when challenged by the programme’s host to provide evidence that the Foreign Affairs Minister had written the statement for the committee’s chairman, Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, Asafo-Adjei Ayeh maintained that the response reinforced his suspicion.
“The response they brought, or the response they read today, it’s confirming, clearing that this is what the Minister has written for them,” he said.
Asafo-Adjei Ayeh argued that the Majority caucus should provide documentary evidence to substantiate its position if it disagreed with figures and records presented by the Minority.
He said the Minority had made its case by displaying documents to the media, including figures relating to totals of 5,000 and 500, as well as names that could be reconciled with the records.
“If they think that there are more numbers that reconcile, more than I have proven, they should prove to you with evidence and records,” he indicated.
