Justice Angela Aseye Attachie, a judge at Adenta Circuit Court 1, who has repeatedly made headlines over her judgments, has been elected to one of the top committees of the Council of Europe.

Justice Aseye Attachie has reportedly been elected to the Bureau of the Council of Europe's Cybercrime Convention Committee (T-CY), which represents the State Parties to the Convention on Cybercrime (Budapest Convention).

The Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, who disclosed the judge's election to the committee, which supports countries in implementing the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime, said that it demonstrates her competence in the area.

“The T-CY supports countries in implementing the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime and strengthens international cooperation on investigations and digital evidence. Its Bureau sets the Committee's direction and priorities.

“Her election is a strong vote of confidence in her expertise and in Ghana. It gives our country a stronger voice in global action against cybercrime, a platform to bring African perspectives to the table, build partnerships, and deepen judicial expertise,” he wrote on Facebook on October 12, 2026.

The minister, who is also the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, went on to thank all the countries that supported Justice Aseye Attachie's nomination.

“I am grateful to the United States of America, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Cabo Verde, Vanuatu and Côte d'Ivoire for supporting her nomination. We remain committed to protecting Ghanaian citizens and businesses in the digital space, and this achievement brings us another step closer,” he added.

Justice Aseye Attachie made news headlines after delivering judgments in cases involving proponents of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), including the party's Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC.

'Threats from people like Abronye forced me to get a bodyguard' - Judge claims

She recently revealed that threats, including those from people like the NPP regional chairman, had forced her to seek protection from a bodyguard for her safety.

Speaking to Citi News on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Law Faculty Board of KAAF University on Monday, August 24, 2026, Her Honour Angela Attachie disclosed that the Judicial Council had provided her with security.

However, circuit court judges are not ordinarily entitled to personal protection under existing rules.

"I'm a circuit court judge. Under our rules, I'm not entitled to one, but I have one now because of the threats from people like Abronye and stuff like that, who has never even been to my court, whose case I have never tried," she said.
