President John Dramani Mahama has directed Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson to allocate GH¢300 million in the 2027 budget for the construction of 250 apartments for police officers to ease congestion in barracks.

Speaking at the commissioning of an ultramodern 85-bed ward complex at the Ghana Police Hospital on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, Mahama said the proposed housing project is part of efforts to improve the welfare and living conditions of police personnel.

“I’ve requested the Minister of Finance to provide GH¢300 million in the 2027 budget to construct 250 new apartments for the police to ease congestion in some of your barracks,” he indicated.

Mahama also announced plans to strengthen the operational capacity of the Ghana Police Service through the provision of additional armoured vehicles and protective equipment.

According to him, a second batch of 40 armoured vehicles was expected to be delivered to the service in the coming weeks, following the handover of 50 vehicles in December 2025.

He further disclosed that the government is procuring additional body armour to improve the safety of officers deployed on operational duties.

The planned interventions are expected to complement investments in police healthcare and accommodation as the government seeks to improve the conditions under which officers perform their duties.

The 85-bed ward complex commissioned at the Ghana Police Hospital forms part of efforts to expand healthcare facilities available to police personnel and other patients.
