Black Starlets assistant coach Hamza Mohammed says Ghana’s opening victory over Togo has boosted the team’s confidence ahead of their second Group A clash against Benin at the 2026 WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship.
The Ghanaian side began its campaign with a 1-0 win over Togo in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, giving the team an encouraging start as it pursues a place in the semi-finals.
Mohammed believes the result has lifted morale within the squad, although he recognises that the victory also places expectations on the team to maintain its momentum.
“Winning the first game has really boosted our confidence. So far we are the only side with a win in the tournament, and that comes with its own demands,” he said.
The Black Starlets will face Benin on Tuesday, knowing that another victory would guarantee qualification for the last four.
The technical team will hope the confidence gained from the Togo victory, combined with improvements in key areas, can help the Starlets overcome Benin.
A win would secure their semi-final place and provide further momentum as they continue their campaign in Burkina Faso.
