Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority, Professor Ransford Gyampo, has dismissed suggestions that one individual (Kojo Bamba) can guarantee electoral security, arguing that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) cannot use such a figure to intimidate the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking on TV3’s The Key Points on Saturday, October 10, 2026, in the aftermath of the NPP’s National Delegates Conference, Professor Gyampo questioned how an individual who could not guarantee electoral security while the NPP was in power could suddenly be presented as the solution from outside government.

He argued that during the NPP administration, they had the constitutional authority and responsibility to oversee national security.

“If you are the whole Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces and he couldn’t provide that kind of security you are looking for, and you think that in another person’s regime, all of a sudden, one man will provide security forever,” he said.

Professor Gyampo then invoked a local proverb to drive home his point, suggesting that the NDC should not be intimidated by the perceived strength of an individual associated with the opposition.

“If you are going to the hometown of dwarfs, you don’t threaten them with magic,” he stated.

He further argued that the NDC, given its revolutionary roots, was not lacking in toughness.

“A party that was born out of revolution is better placed,” he said, adding that the party was now trying to tone down some of these attributes.

However, Professor Gyampo urged the governing party to focus on delivering on President John Dramani Mahama’s Reset Agenda rather than engaging in arguments over political strength.

“What the good people of Ghana are looking for is the need to govern well so that it improves the lot of the people,” he said.

He cited job creation, declining inflation and lower interest rates as key indicators that could help the government demonstrate its performance to voters.
