Hundreds of enthusiastic New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters gathered at the Prempeh International Airport in Kumasi to accord a rousing welcome to the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah.

The clip shows party faithful waving NPP flags, wearing custom campaign shirts, and chanting in celebration as the lawmaker arrived in Kumasi for the first time since his recent detention by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

The warm reception comes shortly after the Accra High Court granted the Manhyia South MP bail in the sum of GH¢10 million with two sureties.

Baffour Awuah was formally charged by state prosecutors with conspiracy, intentionally causing financial loss to the state, and money laundering.

The state alleges that the legal fees and recovery settlement arising from a commercial transaction between his former law firm and state-owned insurer SIC Life resulted in financial loss.

However, defense counsel for the MP has strongly denied any criminal wrongdoing, maintaining that the matters under scrutiny stem strictly from legitimate commercial legal transactions executed by his former law practice.

The MP is scheduled to reappear before the Accra High Court on October 26, 2026, for the continuation of proceedings.

In late September 2026, a standoff between EOCO operatives and parliamentarians ensued at the Accra High Court, drawing public statement interventions from Parliament regarding constitutional privileges and due process surrounding the arrest and detention of sitting MPs.

The criminal charges center on a 2020 debt recovery retainer where SIC Life engaged Baffour Awuah’s law firm to recover funds from Equity Savings and Loans, a matter his defense team asserts was conducted entirely within professional commercial legal standards.
