The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has postponed the reopening of the 2026/2027 academic year indefinitely due to an ongoing strike by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).

The university, which was scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, announced the postponement in a notice to students, parents and the general public.

“The reopening of the University for the 2026/2027 academic year, originally scheduled for 13th October 2026, has been postponed indefinitely,” the notice stated.

According to management, the decision was necessitated by the ongoing industrial action by GAUA and its impact on the university’s administrative operations.

“This decision has become necessary in view of the ongoing strike action by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) and its impact on the University’s effective operations and administration,” the statement added.

The notice, signed by the Deputy Registrar of the University Relations Office, Dr Daniel Norris Bekoe, urged students and other stakeholders to take note of the development.

KNUST management expressed regret over the inconvenience caused by the postponement and appealed for understanding and cooperation from the university community.

“Management regrets any inconvenience this postponement may cause and appreciates the understanding and cooperation of all stakeholders,” the notice said.

Students are advised to await further communication from the university, as no new reopening date has been announced.
