Member of Parliament (MP) for Yendi, Lawyer Abdul Fatawu Alhassan Jofa, and the former Yendi MP, Dr Farouk Aliu Mahama, have clashed over installing a transformer in Nayilifong Saasigli in the Yendi Municipality of the Northern Region.
According to multiple reports residents of Nayilifong Saasigli went without electricity for about 24 days, severely disrupting daily life.
It is alleged that attempts to reach the sitting MP to resolve the outage proved futile.
The former MP, Dr Farouk Aliu Mahama, then reportedly provided a transformer to restore power.
When Lawyer Jofa learned that the former MP had supplied a transformer, he reportedly visited the community with two transformers.
However, residents allegedly chased away the MP's supporters to register their displeasure over the prolonged outage.
Lawyer Jofa accused Dr Farouk Aliu Mahama of inciting residents and lying to them, which he said led to the confrontation.
"I want people to know that Farouk Mahama is a liar. This is the sort of falsehood he used to peddle when he was MP, and he seems not to have learned from it," he said.
