New Patriotic Party (NPP) Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Dr Bernard Okoe Boye, has called on authorities involved in the arrest and detention of Techiman-based nurse Salomey Awiti Baffoe to apologise to her, arguing that her treatment raises concerns about individual liberty.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue on Saturday, October 10, 2026, Dr Okoe Boye questioned the circumstances surrounding Baffoe’s detention and the subsequent decision to grant her bail, suggesting that some officials may have been seeking to demonstrate their authority rather than address a genuine security threat.

“I am of the firm belief that this nurse from Techiman who was taken through this ordeal, some people were only trying to show her where power lies,” he said.

He also questioned the rationale for the case being adjourned to February 2027, despite concerns previously raised about the accused posing a potential threat.

“When they granted her bail, do you know when they are hearing the case again? February 2027. We have been told something, that this is a funny case. If someone is a threat to the state, how do you let her walk around between now and February 2027?” he asked.

Dr Okoe Boye stressed that the protection of individual liberties should remain a priority regardless of which political party is in power.

“There is one thing we must fight for, whether we are in opposition or in government and it is the liberty of individuals,” he stated.

He added: “Someone who is a threat to Ghana, who had to be refused bail by the High Court of Ghana, is asked to walk around Ghana till next year February. I want those involved to come and apologise to her.”

Background to the case Baffoe was granted bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 by the Adenta Circuit Court on October 5, after the prosecution did not oppose her bail application.

As part of her bail conditions, she is required to report to the police every two weeks. The case has been adjourned to February 17, 2027.

The bail decision followed an earlier ruling by the High Court refusing her bail application. The court cited concerns that her release could interfere with ongoing investigations involving cyber-related evidence.

Baffoe is accused of abetting the publication of false news in connection with content linked to the TikTok account known as Ghana Jollof.

Dr Okoe Boye’s comments have brought renewed attention to the case, particularly the balance between the demands of criminal investigations and the protection of individual rights.
