Anthony Abayifaa Karbo has blamed last-minute meetings between NPP aspirants and delegates for the delay in starting the party’s recent national executive elections conference.
Karbo, who chaired the NPP National Delegates Conference Organising Committee, said delegates arrived late to the conference grounds because several aspirants wanted to deliver final messages at their hostels.
Speaking to Umaru Sanda Amadu on Citi FM, he said the aspirants included candidates contesting positions such as General Secretary and National Youth Organiser.
“On the morning of the conference, the delegates were on their way to the conference grounds; they were coming to the stadium, but the aspirants, you know, General Secretary, Youth Organiser and all these aspirants, all the 40 or something, wanted to give them their last messages,” Karbo explained.
He said he arrived early and repeatedly called delegates who had not yet arrived, only to be told that party figures were still meeting them.
“They said, ‘Oh, John Boadu has just come to give us a message, and we are told that Ajaku is also coming to give us a message and Nanabanyin is also coming to give us a message if we leave,’” he recounted.
Karbo said the delegates kept waiting as different party figures arrived to address them, contributing to the late start.
“They were all giving them last-minute messages. It’s like when your boys are going to write their BECEs. They gave them a pep talk,” he said.
