Sports journalist Saddick Adams has disclosed that a Ghanaian footballer confirmed to him that some Black Stars players fought in the dressing room after their 4-2 defeat to The Gambia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

During the post-match press conference, The Gambia coach Jonathan McKinstry said he overheard what appeared to be a verbal clash among Ghanaian players in the tunnel at half-time.

The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, downplayed the claims during the press conference, stating that it was normal for players to have such conversations in heated moments.

However, Saddick Adams has also revealed that a conversation with a Black Stars player who was not part of the squad for the matches against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia appeared to corroborate the reports of a verbal clash among the players. According to Adams, the player was informed by a Gambian teammate who featured in the match.

The player reportedly told his Ghanaian teammate that the Gambian players believed the Black Stars lacked confidence ahead of the game, which boosted their motivation to secure a positive result.

“I got this information from a Black Stars player who was not part of the squad for the game; his teammate, who plays for Gambia, told him. If he is lying, then I am also lying. Firstly, he said that before the game began, the players' morale was down as they were not confident, so they knew that even if Ghana scored, they would equalise.

“On the field of play, the Ghanaian players were fighting among themselves through gestures and all that. Instead of passing, they wouldn't pass. And it showed when the penalty came, as everyone wanted to play the ball. The fight started at the blast of the whistle,” Saddick Adams said while speaking on Angel FM.

The renowned journalist went on to say that he was also told tensions remained high among the Black Stars players after the game, leading to an altercation in the dressing room.

The Gambian player reportedly claimed that some Ghanaian players fought among themselves after the match, although the incident was not made public.

“And thirdly, he said Ghanaian players were not committed to the game, and it made them aware that they could beat Ghana. Also, as the coach said, he also confirmed that the Ghanaian players were fighting in the dressing room after the game. Some were at loggerheads with each other,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars are aiming to win both matches against Somalia in November 2026 to put their qualification campaign for the 2027 AFCON back on course.
