Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwah, has suggested that Boakye Agyarko could have secured a surprise victory in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) national chairmanship race if former Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, had contested.

He explained that Wontumi’s participation could have split the votes of candidates with similar support bases, potentially changing the outcome of the election.

Speaking on ChannelOne TV’s What The Papers Are Saying on Thursday, October 8, 2026, Dankwah said the absence of Wontumi from the race affected how delegates distributed their votes among the candidates.

“I think if he was in the race, that could have given Agyarko a surprise win,” he said.

Dankwah further argued that the combined votes of some candidates could have exceeded the votes secured by the eventual winner if their support bases had aligned.

“If you look at Boakye Agyarko, and actually if you add Agyarko’s vote and Afoko’s vote, it’s higher than what the winner got. So, it means if these guys had put their heads together, they could have outsmarted the winner,” he said.

He explained that the supporters of Paul Afoko and Agyarko shared similar preferences, with both groups seeking a different direction for the party.

Dankwah also said Wontumi’s endorsement of the eventual winner provided an additional boost to the candidate’s chances.

On the issue of party unity, he disclosed that Global InfoAnalytics’ findings showed former NPP General Secretary John Boadu leading by 13 percentage points on the question of which candidate delegates believed could unite the party.

He attributed Boadu’s performance on the unity question to his perceived lack of political baggage and the absence of public comments that could alienate sections of the party.
