The Ga Mantse, Nii Teiko Tsuru II, has appealed to the Ministry of Roads and Highways to create employment opportunities specifically for Ga State indigenes.

According to him, such an arrangement would ensure Ga indigenes benefit directly from development projects in the region.

The Ga Mantse made the appeal when the Minister of Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, paid a courtesy call on him at the Ga Mantse Palace.

Nii Teiko Tsuru II said the traditional council was particularly concerned about reports of a shortage of workers within the roads sector and urged the Ministry to consider employing more Ga indigenes.

“We are making a note that you set up a quota for our Ga indigenes to be employed in the various sectors, either engineering or part of your artisan workforce,” he said.

He explained that reserving a portion of employment opportunities for locals would allow them to benefit from the economic activities and development taking place in the capital.

“It will help us a lot to know that at least part of the cake has been saved for us and the indigenes of this soil who form the host of this capital,” he added.

The Ga Mantse also commended Agbodza for what he described as progress on several road projects across the Ga State.

He said his observations of roads currently under construction showed signs of progress and expressed confidence that effective supervision and management would enable the government to complete its targets.

“I know that your supervision, attention and good management would let us achieve our targets in due time for next year’s 70th anniversary of our country,” he said.

Beyond roads and employment, Nii Teiko Tsuru II called on the Ministry to support the Ga Mantse Foundation in its efforts to improve the lives of young people.

He said the Foundation was undertaking interventions in education, skills development and youth welfare.

According to him, the Foundation has supported the construction and refurbishment of schools, provided sanitation facilities and implemented initiatives aimed at improving girls’ enrolment, retention and academic performance.

He added that the Foundation was also exploring vocational and entrepreneurial training programmes to equip young people with practical skills and improve their chances of securing employment or becoming self-reliant.
