The Black Stars are expected to be placed under an interim coach for their next two 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Somalia as Ghana takes more time to find a permanent successor to Carlos Queiroz.
The development follows the decision by the five-member search committee, constituted by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, to recommend a temporary solution for the November international window.
The committee was initially expected to submit its recommendation for the next Black Stars coach by Friday, October 9, 2026.
However, reports indicate that more time may be required to complete the search for a substantive appointment, making an interim arrangement the likely option for the immediate AFCON assignments.

Ghana will face Somalia twice in November, with both matches scheduled to take place at the Accra Sports Stadium. The temporary coach is expected to oversee the two fixtures while the search for a long-term head coach continues.
The search committee, chaired by former GFA vice-president Fred Pappoe, includes former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah, former Ghana international Anthony Baffoe, high-performance specialist Faisal Chibsah and football administrator Agbesi Dzakpasu.
The immediate task for whoever takes charge will be to revive Ghana’s qualification campaign after a disastrous start.
The Black Stars opened Group C with a 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké before suffering a 4-2 home loss to The Gambia after taking a two-goal lead.
Those results have left Ghana without a point from their opening two matches and at the bottom of the group.
The pressure is particularly high because Ghana failed to qualify for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco and cannot afford another setback in their attempt to return to the continental tournament.
Queiroz’s departure on October 1, 2026, brought an abrupt end to his second spell in charge after Ghana's poor start to the qualifiers. The Portuguese had managed the Black Stars at the 2026 World Cup before returning for the AFCON campaign.
